Beaches in North Cyprus
Sun, sand, sea and solitude is a good description for many of the beaches in North Cyprus. The best beaches are found in the Karpaz and Famagusta region. The sand is almost white, the sea a dazzling turquoise colour. Snorkeling in the sea around Salamis can be very exciting. You can see the underground remains of Roman buildings and pottery, as well as the array of exotic fish!
One of North Cyprus’s most beach beaches is the 12 mile beach, situated on the South coast of the Karpaz peninsular. 12 miles of golden sand dunes and sand, and nothing else! No hotels or developments. Outstanding beauty with an occasional wild donkey wondering around.
There are many small bays throughout Karpaz peninsular waiting to be discovered. Some have small restaurants attached, others are totally private. Absolute bliss!
The Northern coast line is much more mixed, with sandy bays interspersed with rocky coves, cliffs and headlands. To the East the best public beach is called Alagadi. There are 3 different beaches to choose from – with vast stretches of sand and calm water. Very popular with locals at the weekend. These beaches are also home to wild sea turtles that come lay their eggs in nests. Consequently they are protected beaches, which are closed in the evenings.
Closer to Kyrenia most of the beaches are attached to the hotels. Entry fees can be paid, and we highly recommend the beach at Acapulco Hotel to the East and Deniz Kizi to the West. There is one amazing private beach, about 5 miles West of Kyrenia called Escape beach. This has a very lively atmosphere. The party boats moor in the bay; there are motorized water sports, and even hammocks in the sea!
North Cyprus beaches are either quiet and disserted or full with a wonderful atmosphere. The choice is yours! But as we said at the beginning, we can guarantee sun, sea and sand!!!
